The Giants Cup Tea Garden, Restaurant and Farm Stall is on site, a mere 50metres from Sani Lodge Backpackers, providing all meals, teas and cakes. A curio shop/farm stall is part of the set up and there is also an internet facility. We are open from 7am to 7pm Wednesdays to Sundays and 7am to 10am Mondays and Tuesday. We do however offer dinners 7 days a week! As devotees of the great John Seymour’s philosophy of self sufficiency as laid out in his classic book “The Complete Guide to Self-sufficiency”, we aim to provide home cooked meals with the use of as many home produced products as possible. We aim to use the best ingredients if we don’t produce them ourselves. Whilst Sani Lodge does have a fully equipped self catering kitchen, why not enjoy meals at The Giants Cup! Breakfasts: are served between 7.30 and 9.30 am daily. (We can make special arrangements to serve breakfast at 7am). Our breakfasts consist of bacon, eggs, toast and tomato, together with a health buffet of cereals, fresh organic milk from our own Jersey cows, homemade yoghurt made from our own Jersey cows’ milk, homebaked bread, delicious homemade jams, fresh fruit in season, tea and coffee. We also sometimes provide homemade butter for breakfast. When we have sufficient cream, we churn butter in our novel water-powered butter churn! Packed Lunches: can be ordered the night before and include 2 sandwiches on brown bread with a choice of fillings of cheese, egg / tuna mayonnaise, or ham as well as a piece of fruit, a slice of cake and a fruit juice. Light Lunches: can be ordered off the menu any time and include toasted sandwiches, pancakes and our speciality, a smoked trout platter. Mid morning and afternoon teas: offering chocolate cake and speciality of the day ( weekends) served with our own farm fresh cream, scones with homemade jam and cream, apple pie. Cappuccino, filter coffee, large variety of teas, milkshakes, soft drinks. Dinners: Are served daily at 6pm and include a main course and a dessert. Dinner must be ordered in advance as only guests already booked, will be catered for.
Homemade Ice Cream: The best ice cream you’ll ever taste is made from our own organic fresh cream and flavouring. In season, we make fruit flavours using fresh fruit pulp only. Homemade Yoghurt: Using our own milk and probiotic cultures, our yoghurt is healthy and yummy. We also use fresh fruit pulp flavourings whenever possible. Riverglen Cheese: Made at the Underberg Cheesery, we support this innovative local cheesemaker! Trout: This is a speciality of the Underberg area, and we sell a range of fresh and smoked trout products. Jams: When the fruit ripens, our kitchen becomes a hive of activity with bubbling pots and a multitude of sterilized jars! Our jams contain nothing but fruit and sugar, with as much of the fruit as possible being home grown and including peaches, raspberries, plums, apples, blackberries, gooseberries. Bottled Fruit: When quantities allow, we also bottle fruit such as peaches and plums which we serve for desserts at the lodge as well as sell the surplus. Chutneys: We also sell homemade peach chutney an ideal accompaniment to a hot meal. Honey: pure local honey and honeycomb products available Homemade rusks: typical South African hard biscuit snack food or ‘ Boerbiskuit ‘ hailing back to the Voortrekker days. Ideal for dipping into a mug of tea or coffee! Biscuits: homemade with loving care. |
