IMG_0822Judy Bryant , a guest from Canada who recently stayed at Sani Lodge Backpackers has been enormously generous. She donated $150.00 towards the purchase of 67 pairs of socks for primary school children in Lesotho.These socks will be taken up into Lesotho shortly as winter is here already!

In addition to this Judy also very kindly donated the following towards a knitting project Simone wishes to set up;

26 sets of knitting needles
12 balls of wool
10 skeins of wool
3 crochet hooks
13 sets double point knitting needles
Pattern book
Scissors
6 stitch holders
1 cable holder
7 yarn needles
4 sets point protectors
1 knitting gauges
Safety pins

The project is twofold and will allow guests staying at the Lodge to partake in doing their bit towards keeping rural children warm during winter ,by knitting or crocheting a beanie or a pair of mittens from simple patterns with the wool and needles that Judy has donated. The other part of the project involves equipping women in the local rural community with skills to knit or crochet using the donated needles and wool and then paying them for each item they produce. When the donated wool from Judy runs out, we have another donation that shall be used for wool purchase. So watch this space to see what Sani Lodge guests knit up and how the project rolls out to the community.
