The local rural Government Primary School has 103 learners including children from pre-school age and from grades 1 to 7. The Government’s miserable allocation for funds spent on education has recently resulted in the removal of one teacher leaving a dire scenario of only 4 teachers for the entire school; one teacher for the pre-school, one teacher for grades 1 and 2, the librarian ( a youngster untrained as a teacher) to teach grade 3, one teacher for grades 4 and 5 and the Headmaster for grades 6 and 7. Our assistance in the form of volunteers reading to children in the library as well as helping to catalogue books will be of benefit to all concerned particularly as the teachers are under enormous stress to teach multi-grade classes. So if you have a few extra days on your travels to spend time volunteering by teaching English , reading to children or working in the library at the school, please contact us at Sani Lodge Backpackers. Thank you!
