We opened the Giant’s Cup CafĂ© in 1997 in a building that was the original working garage and base for Mokhotlong Mountain Transport started in 1955 by David Alexander. At that time pack animals ( donkeys and ponies) were the only method of transport along the footpath snaking its way down the escarpment from Lesotho into KWAZULU Natal . Today it is known as the Sani Pass, an iconic mountain pass that traverses one of the most beautiful areas in the world and awarded the Drakensberg Mountains a UNESCO World Heritage Site status for its ecological uniqueness including a truly rich variety of botanical flowers , grasses, trees, succulents, bulbs, animals, insects, birds as well as its wealth of quality rock art drawn by Bushmen artistic genius.
